Our second sponsor that we welcome for our second edition of the OMNISPORT INTERNATIONAL women’s Aussie Cup 2012, is a B&B.
But.....
Not just a Bed & Breakfast place as we all now in the English tradition. No it is more!
If you are as crazy about cycling as I am, it is the place to stay when you want to spend your journey in the hart of Belgian cycling. Situated in the center of the “Vlaamse Ardennen” with fabulous hills as the “Koppenberg, Taaienberg, Kwaremont” etc...in the neighbourhood.
One step away from the beautiful centre of Oudenaarde where, since this year, the final of the greatest professional bike race is hosted. Yes, on walking distance from the finish of the Ronde van Vlaanderen.
Traditional every year more then 20 important cycle races pass this cosy accomodation.
By the way, Oudenaarde is also the home of the famous Ronde van Vlaanderen museum!

Hilde and Christian, started their accomodation in 2006, but soon they found out that living in an area with such a cycling history, most of the people visiting the holidayhouse, had conections or interests in that sport. After a while the first bikeriders arrived and stayed in Leupegem (that is the name of this part of Oudenaarde). Now over the years the name and fame of the house was spread out in the peloton and yes, even worldwide. If you can book a room (book in time!), you might bump in to people that you might have seen on the television in the finale of the Ronde, or Gent-Wevelgem or another famous Cycle Classic.

Even complete teams spend days, weeks or even months of the cycling season in Leupegem, eather for training or base camp between races.
Our own Australian professional team, Drapac, makes it their home for 9 weeks and that since 2009.
American, Danish, British and Russian professionals (men and women) love this place and .... keep coming back every year. National teams of Norway, Great Britain and South Africa have spend some time in Hof ter Kammen.
Last year World Champion Thor Hushovd and his Norwegian teammates used Hof ter Kammen as base for their last trainingweek before the wolds.
In winter time you might bump in to some cyclocross stars from allover Europe or the US.

Besides this, Hilde will also prepare a great breakfast, lunch or dinner. And Christian’s barbeque fest became real famous over the year.
Chill out in the garden, on the deck or just on a towel on the lawn is a must too.
And not everybody is training and racing, so besides a nice coffee, you can taste the local Ename beer or the beer for the sportif, Orvelo.
See you there?

The Aussie Cup at the Jayco Bay Crit series.
I wonder who will be the first Australian female bikerider i take a picture of this year? Cause, if the same thing happens as last year... we already know the winner of the ladies Aussie Cup 2012!
Serious now, lets go back in time. The third of April 2011, at the beautiful market square in Oudenaarde. Pretty cold, but sunny. I walked up to the first girl that wondered around in the green and gold colours, about an hour before the start of the Ronde van Vlaanderen. Shara Gillow was her name. Well, today, fourth of January 2012 she received the $AUS 1000 cheque for winning the women’s Aussie Cup. It was Ms Caroline Clarke, director of SCM Services, Tullamarine, who present the price.
The presentation of the Omnisport International Women’s Aussie Cup took place at the final stage of the 2012 Jayco Bay Series in Williamstown, Victoria, organized by John Trevorrow.
That miss Gillow is serious about these awards, she proofed immediately in the 3th stage by taken the first win of the year for the new GreenEdge team.
The Bay crits didn’t start very well tho for the green and whities, Chloe Hosking and Loren Rowney both riding for the Total Rush-Hyster team took the win at stage 1 and 2.
In both races the GreenEdge women took second place. Chloe won solo, with Hoskins and Gilmore a little behind her. In the second stage it was Loren who hold off Amanda Spratt.
Chloe Hosking kept the leaders jersey.
In stage 3 the GreenEdge girls did what everybody expected right from the start of the series. Taking a stage win! But how? With 5 team members in the top 7! They only allowed the Jayco’s, Grace Sulzberger and Sinead Noonan, to take spot 2 and 6.
The ranking changed as well with now Melissa Hoskins leading over Chloe Hosking.
The final stage would decide final GC, because the smallest gap of one point separated the girls.
And this time it was Amanda Spratt and Melissa Hoskin who took 1 and 2 and left Chloe on third place. GreenEdge – Total Rush/Hyster 2-2 in the winners ranking, altough the pro girls in the white and green jerseys finally took the 3 classements.
Melissa Hoskins won GC, Shara Gillow won the Sprint Ace Competition and the 5 girls won the Teams Classification.
More important for the OmniSport International Women’s Aussie Cup was that Ms Caroline Clarke was present in person and could witness that women’s racing is as exciting as men’s racing. But she is not the person we have to convince about this!
New for the 2012 Cup is that besides the UCI and Belgian National calendar also the Australian National events will count for the ranking. With the help of Barry Langley and Nathan Fraser, i hope i get all the Australian race results we need for a new thrilling season of ladies cycling.
Before i let you have a look at the ranking of the 2012 Aussie Cup, i want to thank John Trevorrow for hosting our presentation, Ms Clarke for sponsoring the 2011 Cup and .... the 2012 Cup (?) and also Barry Langley, director of OSI for the assistance
